The type research used is experimental using a randomized design. sample was tilapia infected with disease, taken from nursery pond poor water quality. can be seen macroscopic characteristics sick tilapia. conducted at Histopathology and Pathology Laboratory Sempur Freshwater Aquaculture Research Institute, Bogor. procedure by making preparations or histological for organs. Data analysis observing identifying, both macroscopically microscopically. results data processing are presented form comparison images normal tissue, after going through observation identification activities. Based on that has been done, histopathological studies Tilapia, indicated fish had disease. brownish color gills, slow movement, difficulty breathing. An investigation was made to study the efficacy of dosage and time of administration in maternal vaccination. Mothers of nile tilapia were vaccinated by intraperitoneal injection with adjuvant-heat killed Streptococcus iniae at one and two weeks after spawning at the dosages of 0,2 ml/kg and 0,4 ml/kg body weight. Unvaccinated mothers were used as control. Agglutinating antibody titers in the b...

Tol2-mediated transgenesis in tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus).

The Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) is an important species in aquaculture and an excellent model system for laboratory studies. Functional genetic analysis using this species has been difficult because existing methods for producing transgenics are inefficient. Here we show that the Tol2 transposon system can be used to create transgenic tilapia with high efficiency. We constructed a line...

Visual communication stimulates reproduction in Nile tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus (L.).

Reproductive fish behavior is affected by male-female interactions that stimulate physiological responses such as hormonal release and gonad development. During male-female interactions, visual and chemical communication can modulate fish reproduction. The aim of the present study was to test the effect of visual and chemical male-female interaction on the gonad development and reproductive beh...

Feed-based vaccination regime against streptococcosis in red tilapia, Oreochromis niloticus x Oreochromis mossambicus

BACKGROUND Streptococcosis is an important disease of tilapia throughout the world. In Malaysia, streptococcosis outbreak was commonly reported during the 3-month period of high water temperature between April and July. This study describes the duration of protection following single and double booster dose regimes against streptococcosis in tilapia using a feed-based vaccine containing formali...

Strategies for Nile Tilapia (oreochromis Niloticus) Pond Culture

Different strategies for Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) culture in ponds with a series of progressive inputs were compared. The sequential experimental stages to increase fish production through intensification were: 1) triple superphosphate (TSP) only; 2) chicken manure only; 3) chicken manure supplemented with urea or urea and TSP; 4) urea and TSP; 5) continually supplemental feeding; 6...
